Coaching
Qualification Requirements
Please
Note: The following article contains a number
of references to the ORA website and other ORA
documents that are not yet final. We expect
these references and documents to be finalized
and released within the next couple of weeks.
A
complete chart and explanation of bench staff
qualification requirements for Ontario Ringette
Sanctioned Play can be found on the Ontario
Ringette website (http://www.ontario-ringette.com/coaching/requirements.php?sub=coaching).
(ORA
Coaching Development Manual - See pages 3-8)
Please note the information there is last year's
info, an updated version is expected shortly.
This website is not intended to be an exhaustive
summary of those requirements, but is intended
to assist Eastern Region coaches in registering
for the necessary coaching clinics.
The National Coaches' Certification Program
for the training and certification of Ringette
coaches has been developed by Ringette Canada
and the Coaching Association of Canada.
The following is a summary of the clinics required
depending on the level of team you are associated
with.
If you are the Head Coach or an Assistant
Coach of a U8, U9, U10 or 'B' or 'C' level
team, you are required to attend a Community
Sport Initiation (CSI) clinic. The CSI clinic
is a 12 hour course running from approximately
8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on a given day. We are offering
4 CSI clinics in the Eastern Region this fall,
as follows:
Sunday, October 23 - hosted by CORA
Saturday, October 29 - hosted by Nepean
Sunday, November 13 - hosted by WORA
Sunday, November 27 - hosted by GCRA
If
you are the Head Coach or an Assistant Coach
of a U12 Provincial team or an 'A' level team,
you are required to attend a Competition Introduction
Part 1 (CI-1) clinic. If you are coaching an
'AA' level team, you are also required to attend
a Competition Introduction Part 2 (CI-2) clinic.
As the CI-2 clinic builds on the CI-1 clinic
and includes advanced skill development and
season planning, we made a decision many years
ago in the Eastern Region to offer the CI-1
and the CI-2 clinics in conjunction with each
other over the same weekend. Thus all competitive
coaches will receive both clinics. The CI clinics
run from approximately 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on
the Friday night, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
on both the Saturday and Sunday. We are offering
2 CI clinics in Eastern Region this fall, as
follows:
September 23 - 25 - hosted by Nepean
November 4 - 6 - hosted by GCRA
'AA' level coaches must also complete
the CI-1 and CI-2 Evaluations after attending
the CI-1 and CI-2 clinics. See the Ontario Ringette
Association website (insert link here) for instructions
as to how to apply for these Evaluations. These
evaluations must be completed by January 8th
of the playing season.
All coaches must
also become MED (Make Ethical Decisions)
Certified. This involves completing a MED
training module (part of the CSI and CI clinics)
and then completing an online evaluation through
the Coaching Association of Canada website.
Please see the ORA
Membership Notice of September 2011
for complete requirements and instructions.
Assistant Coaches in Training (those
who are 16 or 17 years of age as of December
31st of the playing season) are required to
attend a CSI clinic or a CI clinic in accordance
with the team's level of play as per above.
Trainers must be certified in Standard
First Aid. Trainers on U12 Provincial,
'A' and 'AA' teams must also attend either a
CSI or a CI clinic.
The Manager Certification program is
available online on the Ringette Canada website.
Registering
for a Coaching Clinic
Ringette Canada has developed a national coach
registry and online clinic registration system
that we are using as of the 2011/12 season to
register coaches for clinics.
Please go to the Ringette
Canada website (www.ringette.ca),
click on the 'Coaching' tab and create a profile
for yourself by clicking on 'Register Now'.
You will then have a username and password which
will give you the ability to register for clinics
and give you access to various coaching resource
materials that Ringette Canada is planning to
have available in the near future.
When you are logged in, chose 'Clinics' from
the menu across the top of the page and select
the clinic you would like to register for. You
will receive an automatic e-mail from the system
confirming your registration.
Both the CSI clinic and the CI clinic involve
some ice time. Posted clinic hours are approximate.
You will receive an e-mail closer to the clinic
date with specific details as to time, room
locations, and what to bring. If you have any
questions in the meantime, please contact Kathy
McCaw, Eastern Region Coaching Coordinator at
mccawkathy@gmail.com or 613-831-0107.
As the cost of clinics is charged to your home
association, you must have their approval to
attend.

Beginning
with the 2006/2007 Season all Coaches and
Bench Staff MUST complete a Police Records

Sanctioned Play. A copy

HOW TO ARRANGE
AN INTRODUCTION TO COMPETITION (CI) EVALUATION
After attending an
Introduction to Competition Course:
| 1. |
The
coach submits a written (in letter format) request
for a CI evaluation to the O.R.A. Office accompanied
by a $75.00 cheque made payable to the Ontario
Ringette Association. |
| 2. |
Upon
receipt of the application and cheque, the O.R.A.
Office notifies the appropriate Regional Coaching
Co-ordinator and will send the coach a copy of
the appropriate forms necessary for the evaluation. |
| 3. |
The
Regional Coaching Co-ordinator contacts an appropriate
Coaching Evaluator, who contacts the coach to
set up a time for the evaluation of the coachs
practice. |
| 4. |
Upon
completion of the evaluation the Evaluator will
|
|
a. |
Sends
the proper documentation to the O.R.A. Office;
and |
|
b. |
Notifies
the coach if they have completed the evaluation
successfully or not. |
| |
|
|
| Documentation
and Process of the Evaluation |
|
|
|
| When
you took your CI and Gradation Workshops you were
give two cellophane Wrapped Sets of Documents.
One was for the CI Workshop and one for Gradation.
In each there were several different documents,
a Coach Workbook, Reference Material, Toolbox,
and the Coach Evaluation Package. There was a
separate Evaluation Package in each set of documents.
It is near the back of of the documents on white
paper. Please reread these two documents to get
a good "picture" of what you need to
do. You should do your evaluation for both at
the same time. |
|
|
|
| Once
assigned the task of becoming your evaluator,
he/she will contact you to ask if you are ready
and to ask you to provide several possible dates
for the on-ice portion of your evaluation. There
are a total of 5 outcomes you will be evaluated
on. |
| 1. |
Analyze
Performance |
|
|
You
will choose a scenario from a list within the
Coach Evaluation Package, or one of your own choosing
that will benefit your own team. You must identify
a problem area, determine the skills needed to
fix the problem, create all the drills necessary
for the correction. Put all of this to paper including
your plan of correction. Then put one or two of
those drills into the Practice Plan. |
| 2. |
Plan
a Practice |
|
|
Plan
your practice in detail according the the topics
covered in the Workshop complete with explanation,
teaching points, and diagrams. Make sure your
Practice Plan agrees with the time of your season
in your Season Plan, ensuring that it meets the
criteria for the growth and development for the
age of your athletes. Create an Emergency Action
Plan (EAP). You must submit your practice and
EAP to the evaluator well before the actual on
ice time. Please read both the Evaluation Procedure
and the Evaluation form to see what kinds of things
the evaluator will be observing and marking on.

Provide
Support to the Athlete in Training (On Ice Evaluation
of your Practice Plan) |
|
|
This
is you actual on-ice evaluation... Be sure to
cover all safety issues. |

On-line
Make Ethical Decisions |
|
|
This
you do on your own time, by computer, utilizing
the CAC website.
http://nccpeval.coach.ca/production/med/e/default.asp
Remember to use the process you learned in the
module... It is most important.
You require your Coaching Certification Number
(CC#) to complete the online ethics evaluation.
If you have not yet received your Coaching
Number from CAC here is the procedure to get a
CC Number.
Send an email requesting an NCCP number to
coach@coach.ca with your name, address and birthdate.
The CAC will do a manual search of the coach and
issue you an NCCP number so you can complete the
online evaluation.

Design
a Basic Season Plan |
|
|
Submit
a written submission of your Season Plan, along
with your completed Coach Workbook. Your Practice
Plan MUST demonstrate the coach is using the information
in the Season Plan for the time of the season
of the evaluation. The Coach Workbook will be
returned to the coach after the evaluation is
