We are happy to announce that our application
for a ringette team at the University of Ottawa has been accepted,
and that sports services has decided to host a Ringette Club
for the 2004-2005 academic year. The University of Ottawa's
Gee Gees Ringette team was an initiative initiated in the middle
of 2003 and succeeded in demonstrating the desire and interest
of ringette players attending the university to participate
in the sport if it was active and offered on campus. Through
continual participation of students in two 12 week session of
shinny-ringette, a combined listing of over 70 players (more
then half of which are students), we have shown that ringette
does have a place at the University of Ottawa.
Our primary ambition is to create an
Open AA team and participate in the Canadian Ringette League.
The coming season will prove to be a challenging one for our
organization, but indicates that ringette at a varsity level
is possible (as seen in other parts of Canada as well!). We
would like to extend this challenge to all other Universities
to come join us in the creation of a Canada wide varsity league.
Your drive and desire to see ringette thrive and flourish is
all it takes!
The University of Ottawa Ringette Club
will host is first open meeting on Tuesday, June 1st 2004, 8:30pm
at the Sports Complex located at 801 King Edward on the university
campus, room E216. This will give us an opportunity to begin
releasing further information. We would also like to extend
this invitation to anyone who would like to be involved and
contribute in the organization to come to the meeting as well.
Thank you to everyone that supported
our initiatives. We appreciate your continual efforts.
Hope to see you at the meeting,
-Sabrina Guay,
-Linda Lugg,
-Andrew Monterio
